Taking the form of a biennial, ArtX at MOCAD returns for the third time with the work of fifteen recent Kresge Arts Fellows. Dealing with themes such as domesticity, memory, memorial, and a changing community, the exhibition will fill all galleries at MOCAD. Many of the artists involved have created new works that expand on their existing bodies of work while utilizing new techniques and materials.
With works commemorating Brewster Douglass, and classic Detroit children’s TV show Boofland, the exhibition also explores the narrative of Detroit; the foundation of it’s identity and the character of it’s inhabitants. While many of the artists included in the exhibition are lifelong residents of the area, others are recent transplants who have chosen to make Detroit their home. This exhibition takes the form of a celebration of the people that create meaning through art within our chaotic and exuberant city.
Participating artists include Jon Brumit, Coco Bruner, Jason Carter, Kate Daughdrill, Oren Goldenberg, Ben Hall, Marie T. Hermann, Jeedo AKA Waajeed, Cary Loren, Charlie O’Geen, Peregrine Workshop, Bill Rauhauser, Bryant Tillman, Carl Wilson, and Michael Zadoorian.
