MOCAD invites you to learn from a conversation between the artists Mark Thomas Gibson and Mario Moore on behalf of A Retelling, Gibson’s first solo museum exhibition. Moore and Gibson graduated with an MFA in Painting from the Yale School of Art in 2013. They share artistic interests in figurative painting, social justice, and the representation of contemporary Black life. In 2022, Mark Thomas Gibson, based in Philadelphia, was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship from the Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, New York. The work of Mario Moore, a Detroit native, has been exhibited widely, including at the Charles H. Wright Museum, Detroit, MI; The Detroit Institute of Arts, Detroit, MI; The Lewis Center for the Arts at Princeton University, NJ; the Smart Museum of Art, Chicago, IL; and the Smithsonian Institution (sites traveling).
