Join MOCAD and the Ruth Ellis Center for an in-depth workshop exploring aspects of gender-affirming care. This session will explore the gender binary and provide essential resources for finding and funding gender-affirming care. Participants will gain insights into socially, medically, and legally affirming practices that enhance safety and well-being for individuals navigating the various modalities and nuances of transitioning. Geared toward those interested in transitioning as well as informed allies, participants will leave equipped with effective strategies and resources to support and advocate for the LGBTQ+ community.
Ruth Ellis Center has earned a national reputation for quality and innovation in providing trauma-informed services for homeless, runaway and at-risk lesbian, gay, bi-attractional, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ+) youth and young adults of color. What began as a 500-square-foot safe space in Highland Park, MI is now a multi-faceted organization, operating four facilities spanning Highland Park and Detroit. In these spaces, we offer a continuum of programs that provide:
Permanent supportive housing and safety-net programs
Fully integrated primary and behavioral healthcare and case management
Skill-building workshops
HIV prevention programs
Family support programs
As well as robust trainings for community members, providers, and more to learn about how we do the work we do, to help improve all services that LGBTQ+ young people access in our community.
Notice: Due to the sensitive nature of this program, please note that security will be available at the museum in the case of instances of threatening behavior.
