MOCAD proudly presents a sneak-peek screening of Talking Walls, produced by artist Marcellus Armstrong and co-directed by Raishad Momar. The film documents several conversations recounting Black and queer spaces, many which no longer exist, such as The Woodward, Detroit’s oldest-running gay bar that was lost to a fire in 2022.
A talk between Marcellus and one of the film’s stars, Alfred Johnson, a queer elder living in the Boston-Edison neighborhood of Detroit since 1969, follows the 26 minute film. They will illuminate the past, prioritizing the importance of archiving oral histories to shape our future, especially in sacred queer communities.
