BACK-TO-SCHOOL COMMUNITY RESOURCE FAIR

,

Sunday, August 23, 2026

1pm – 3pm

This free Back-to-School Resource Fair is designed to help Detroit students and families prepare for the upcoming school year. Join MOCAD for a family-friendly afternoon featuring a backpack and school supply giveaway while supplies last, a children’s clothing swap, free books, a small hands-on craft table, community resources, and opportunities to connect with local organizations supporting youth and families.

We are excited to partner with local Detroit organizations, including Birdie’s Bookmobile, Brilliant Detroit, MFWAR House, and MSUFCU, for this Community Care event.

About Community Cares

Our Community Care program delivers rapid-response workshops and practical training rooted directly in the evolving needs of our city. By prioritizing the holistic well-being of our neighbors, this series transforms the museum into a living, breathing site of collective care—a place where art and advocacy meet. Through this work, we reaffirm our commitment to being a community-led space that is not only “of the people,” but actively shaped by them.

MOCAD’s Community Care Programming is made possible through the support of the Gilbert Family Foundation, Michigan State University Federal Credit Union, Mike Kelley Foundation for the Arts, and Teiger Foundation.
