Space is limited and RSVP is required. Participants will receive a reading packet in advance and are strongly encouraged to read the texts before the conversation.
This two-day seminar seeks to start a critically informed conversation grounded in selected readings such as Jacques Rancière’s The Politics of Aesthetics, 2004; Chantal Pontbriand’s The Contemporary, the Commons: Art in a Globalizing World, 2013. Led by renée c. hoogland, professor of literature and culture at Wayne State University, the seminar invites participants to think through and develop structured ideas about the role of artworks, art practice, and the ways in which art functions in today’s society, both locally and internationally.
