February 21, 2019 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

FILM + TALK: MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS—LABOR IN THE ARCHIVE

March 28, 2019 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Finally Got the News (1970) is a celebrated documentary exploring the League of Revolutionary Black Workers and their activities throughout Detroit’s auto factories. Centered on individual members of the movement, the film chronicles their efforts to build an independent labor organization, against a forceful historical montage tracing the growth and organization of America’s working class. This screening of Finally Got the News will be introduced by Pat Elifritz, Curator of New Media and Technology at MOCAD, and followed by a conversation on archival work with Jova Lynne, Ford Curatorial Fellow, archivists at the Library of Labor and Urban Affairs at Wayne State University, and a featured artist from the exhibition Useless Utility.
