Please join MOCAD and Science Gallery Lab Detroit for The Intersection as we explore questions around sustainable fashion. How does what we are wearing affect the environment we live in, and what creative approaches are being utilized by creatives to address the fashion industry’s impact on the environment? Industry professionals and artists from Detroit is the New Black, Lazlo, and Detroit Fiber Works will explore the behind-the-scenes process of creating the products that we see on shelves in our favorite stores. From the time the seeds are planted in the ground to the amount of water and pesticides that are used to enhance the harvest all the way to the dye that is used to color the fabric. We’ll talk about what exactly we are wearing and some of the science behind the fashion industry and sustainable fashion. Panelists include, Ashton Keys, Founder of Ninety6, Roslyn Karamoko, Founder of Detroit is the New Black, Mandisa Smith, Co-Owner Detroit Fiber Works and Christian Birky, Founder of Lazlo. In addition to the panel there will be a free screen printing on site and participants can leave with a free t-shirt.
