RETRO IRAQI JEWELRY W/ AKASHI STUDIO

Friday, May 13, 6pm

MOCAD Café

For millennia, the art of jewelry making has held a place of significance in the culture of Iraq and its diaspora. Led by emerging artist Marrim Akashi Sani of Akashi Studio, this workshop explores the legacy of Iraqi jewelry design, infusing nostalgic familiarity with a contemporary twist.

Participants are encouraged to make a statement with customizable jewelry, choosing from charms and decorative elements designed by Akashi Sani. Collectively, we will celebrate the symbolic visual culture that continues traditional art forms as a human right. Leave wearing your jewelry with pride!

A special thanks to Papaya Market for their generous donation of sweets for this event.

A negative COVID-19 test taken within the last 24 hours or proof of full vaccination is required to attend this program. If you have any questions about this requirement, please reach out to info@mocadetroit.org.
