BENEATH GROUND

Saturday, November 13, 12pm
Mike Kelley’s Mobile Homestead

What lies beneath ground near Mike Kelley’s Mobile Homestead? Participate in an archaeological dig led by Wayne State University’s Anthropology Department Chair, Krysta Ryzewski and her team of students. In conjunction with Jan Tichy’s solo exhibition, All Monsters, this event explores dualities of the seen and unseen, the public structure of the Homestead versus the private basement below – a labyrinth descending forty feet into the ground. Mostly unknown and inaccessible, the space conjures questions of what’s down there and who it’s for. Let’s create our own myths and stories around the found artifacts as we excavate earth and Detroit history.

Support for Mike Kelley’s Mobile Homestead is provided by the Mike Kelley Foundation for the Arts.
