Akeem Smith and Damon Davis are two artists who practice the method of gathering materials and images to construct narratives around culture and identity in their work. Join us in celebrating the exhibition of Akeem Smith: No Gyal Can Test, on view at Red Bull Arts Detroit from April 16–July 31, 2021, and Damon Davis: Filling In The Cracks at MOCAD from June 4th – August 8th, 2021, with a conversation about process and methods. Both artists will be in conversation with Associate Professor of Art History at Wayne State University, Samantha Noel, and moderated by MOCAD Senior Curator Jova Lynne, where they will share about their process for gathering stories and more in this in depth discussion.
