About MOCAD’s Renovation

MOCAD’s Phase 1 renovation marks a pivotal moment as the Museum approaches its 20th anniversary, uniting physical upgrades with a renewed institutional vision. The project includes essential infrastructure improvements, such as a new roof and HVAC system to protect artworks, alongside a redesigned Woodward Avenue façade and a public window display that enhances accessibility. Interior transformations introduce the Knight Foundation Community Commons, expanded staff offices, and a permanent Learning Studio for youth engagement. Paired with the renaming of its main building in honor of Co-Founder Julia Reyes Taubman, the renovation reflects our enduring commitment to community, experimentation, and contemporary art in Detroit.
